Compromises and failures

Apparently my school is weird. A few students in my class suggested having a party during our last computing period of the year, but our teacher wanted to go through a few more assessed presentations.

The result? We get to snack on whatever people are bringing while delivering speeches. Yay!

My last post was about an assessed performance for my music course at school. After playing the piece for the markers on my semi-acoustic guitar, I realised that it might have sounded better on my electric. I tried it, and it did. I just hope I get an okay mark regardless.

Edit: I got more than I expected. Apparently nobody noticed the fact that I was trembling throughout the performance.

Performance anxiety

It hits me every single time I play a piece that is going to be assessed and contribute towards my final course score.

I played my latest piece with my hands trembling the entire time, and somehow managed to make it sound good.

Here they come!

Tenth grade finals in a weeks time, and a history project due in under 36 hours. No posts because I have been busy with both, sorry!

Anyway, I performed at a school concert and I'll post a link once I compress and upload the video (bad quality right now. I'm trying to get my hands on something with better sound), and I have an assessed performance in two days. Sorry if I don't update the blog in the next week - I promise I'll return to the normal schedule soon!

The Rasmus

The Rasmus are the first band in almost half a year to make me impulsively pick up a guitar and play along. Yay!

Also, their music is great in that I find myself dancing to one song, then depressed at the next. All in all: awesome music!

On Death and Genocide

I heard almost a week ago about a child who refused to get a heart transplant, and I have to say I despise anyone who thinks she should be forced because of her age. What made age, rather than intelligence and understanding, such a driving force in judging a decision?

Also, I'll be working soon to raise a little bit of awareness on the Darfur genocide tomorrow with, hopefully, 300 others. I'll post about my view of the responses in Australia following the first major event.

Click here for a list of links to various organisations involved in the attempt to bring peace to the region.

Quote of the day #1

If I find something particularly funny/interesting/etc, I'll post it here.

Today, a friend looked at my desktop background, and told me the following:

"It's a wolf wearing clothes. That's not right."

I find this quite amusing, since the same person who said that also reads a tonne of fantasy, and enjoys reading vampire/werewolf novels.

Incompetent...

The Board of Studies? Incompetent.

Time for first computing test: 27 minutes 30 seconds.

Time spent for repeat test: 8 minutes.

What happened? They used windows. It crashed trying to submit my results. I ended up switching to a Mac OS 8 system to complete the exam.

The Bored of Studies

Seriously... I fell asleep as soon as I finished writing my history, and only one question in the math test made me actually think, and that is because I misread it. What is Australia coming to, when its education system requires a minimal amount of knowledge?

All aboard!

I saw the SS 1337 today. Yay for awesome number plates?

Also, over four days of exams:
- The two I am worried about are on the first and last days.
- I have no exams on the second day, meaning a full day of extra study.

The world finally smiles upon me?

Frustration!

New guitar... First Floyd Rose style tremolo... Six hours and I'm still not in tune! More later on the frustrating adventures of learning to use my new guitar.

[Edit]
The outcome: I need to buy more springs. There's not enough tension in my current springs to counter standard tuning, so I'm down two tones.

Oops... I did it again!

I spent somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour today composing the intro to a song. And then I forgot it as soon as I put my guitar down.

I know the notes, just not the rhythm. Like always...

Also, I'm picking up my new guitar today! I'll post some pictures once I get access to a digital camera.

It was the cat...

So, I left two of my guitars next to some of the music classrooms today... and I came back at the end of the day to find my acoustic case unlatched but still locked and secure. My bass case, on the other hand, was partially unlatched, and the leads inside were in a state of disarray. The non-musicians ignore my bass, most thinking it a keyboard, so I am led to assume that another musician did this.

Now, I can understand someone looking at a six string bass and wanting to play, but is it too much to ask for my case to be left in the same state as it was found in? Especially when it was another musician that was messing with it...

On a lighter note I'm going to try to write something here every day, even if it's just another comment on how boring life can be. I need somewhere to vent, and this seems like the best place, since neither my family nor my childhood friends know about it.

Songs and symbols.

I have been using an mp3 player with a broken screen for almost a year now. I don't mind it, but it makes finding songs really hard if I like them and don't know the name. It's probably a good thing that I'm such a fan of Muse, because I was listening to Endlessly today, and it defines my life.

[EDIT]
On second thought, I have to add Hysteria on to that list. I'm listening to my Muse collection, and it is so much more appropriate.

I'm going to keep a list of such songs in my profile as I come across them.
[/EDIT]

Also, I have to wonder at the hypocrisy shown by my school. Me and several other students quarrelled with the staff again about how they define a 'religious symbol'. Several of us, attending a Jewish school, had necklaces confiscated holding unmistakeably Jewish symbols. I figured I might as well ask about some of the Christian students at the school, and non-Jewish symbols are apparently allowed if a student follows such a different religion.

I can understand banning non-Jewish symbols at a Jewish school, but banning Jewish symbols and allowing non-Jewish symbols? Something is wrong with the management. Hypocrites.

I slipped and fell...

... face first into this blog. I would be lying if I told you I do not want others to see this, because I do. I really do... I just do not expect to have a major impact on anything. Doesn't change the fact that I'm going to use this to rant, and hopefully find someone who shares my views on the world. I figured I have put it off enough already.

I may or may not post often, but I'll try to put something on here at least once a week, or once a month, depending on what time allows. And a cookie to anyone that understands the title of this blog. I'll explain it later if anyone is interested, or I'm bored enough to write up a post about it.
